KCCA Deploys Joint Security Teams to Enforce Trade Order in Kampala

The Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority, Sharifah Buzeki, has announced the deployment of joint security teams to strictly enforce trade regulations across Kampala in a renewed push to restore order in the capital.

Speaking to the media, Buzeki said the operation will bring together the Uganda Police Force, the Military Police, and KCCA enforcement officers in a coordinated crackdown on illegal street trading.

She explained that the move is intended to restore dignity and sanity in the city, which she said has been undermined by a sharp rise in street hawking and the occupation of public spaces.

According to Buzeki, the joint deployment will ensure compliance with established trade regulations, protect designated markets, and reclaim roads, pavements, and other public areas meant for pedestrian and vehicular movement.

KCCA has in recent years carried out multiple operations to remove vendors from streets and relocate them to gazetted markets, arguing that unregulated hawking disrupts traffic flow, poses safety risks, and affects urban planning efforts.

The latest enforcement drive signals a tougher stance by the city authority as it intensifies efforts to streamline business operations and reassert control over public spaces in Kampala.
