Authorities from Fort Portal City Council have issued a public notice directing vendors, kiosk owners, and business operators conducting activities illegally within the city to vacate unauthorized locations.
According to the notice dated 5th March 2026, affected individuals are required to relocate their businesses to designated markets or approved shops within Fort Portal.
The directive also applies to owners of illegal buildings and structures, who have been ordered to remove them before 15th March 2026.
City authorities warned that failure to comply with the directive will lead to forceful enforcement operations beginning Monday, 16th March 2026, with all associated costs and risks borne by the owners of the illegal structures or businesses.
Officials say the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to improve urban planning and maintain order in the city. They added that removing unauthorized vending points and illegal structures will help create a more organized business environment, protect property, and address urban challenges such as poverty, crime, and social distress.
