President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has extended an invitation to his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev, to attend his upcoming swearing-in ceremony scheduled for May 12, 2026.

The move signals Uganda’s efforts to deepen diplomatic and economic relations with the Asian nation. As part of this engagement, State Minister for Foreign Affairs in charge of International Affairs, Henry Oryem Okello, traveled to Azerbaijan on April 3, 2026, where he delivered the formal invitation as a special envoy.

Officials say the outreach reflects Kampala’s broader strategy to expand international partnerships, particularly in areas of trade, investment, and bilateral cooperation.

The planned inauguration is expected to attract regional and international leaders, further positioning Uganda on the global diplomatic stage.
