Uganda’s Parliament has approved a motion to support the family of the late Hellen Nakimuli, with each Member of Parliament set to contribute UGX 500,000 towards the education of her daughter.
The motion was moved by the Minister of State for Sports, Peter Ogwang, directing the Parliamentary Commission to effect the deductions.
In a further show of support, Speaker Anita Annet Among announced that she will personally cover the child’s school fees up to Senior Four through Bukedea Comprehensive School.
She also revealed an additional UGX 10 million contribution from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to assist the bereaved family during this difficult time.
The move has been widely seen as a gesture of solidarity from Parliament and political leaders following the sudden passing of Nakimuli, who served as Woman MP for Kalangala District.
Leaders across the political divide continue to pay tribute to her legacy, as efforts are made to support her family and ensure the welfare of her children.
