The Electoral Commission of Uganda has released the official programme for the 2026 Administrative Units Elections, setting out key activities leading to the election of Village (LC I) and Parish/Ward (LC II) chairpersons across the country.
According to a roadmap issued on June 22, the electoral process will begin with the recruitment of village election officials and the compilation of voters’ registers before culminating in polling for LC I chairpersons on July 28, 2026, and LC II chairpersons on August 10, 2026.

The Commission said the elections are intended to fill leadership positions at the grassroots level and called on all eligible citizens to participate actively in the process.
Under the programme, recruitment of village election officials will take place between June 22 and July 1, followed by the verification of residents and compilation of village voters’ registers from July 6 to July 10.
The LC I voters’ registers will be displayed on July 13 and 14 to allow residents to verify their details before nominations for LC I chairperson candidates are conducted from July 15 to July 19.
Campaigns for LC I candidates will run from July 20 to July 27, ahead of polling on July 28.
The Commission has also scheduled the display of Parish/Ward (LC II) voters’ registers for July 30 and 31, while nominations for LC II chairperson candidates will be conducted on August 3.
Campaigns for LC II candidates will run from August 4 to August 9, with polling set for August 10, 2026.
The Electoral Commission urged political leaders, candidates, local authorities, and voters to comply with electoral guidelines and timelines to ensure peaceful, free, and fair elections.
The LC I and LC II elections are considered critical to local governance, as the elected leaders play a central role in community mobilization, dispute resolution, implementation of government programmes, and coordination of development activities at the grassroots level.
With preparations now underway, attention is expected to shift to voter register verification and candidate nominations as communities across Uganda begin the process of selecting their local leaders for the next term.
