The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has launched the Open Park Days Influencer Campaign, a new initiative aimed at encouraging more Ugandans to visit the country’s national parks and protected areas through authentic digital storytelling by content creators.
The campaign was officially flagged off yesterday with a trip to Murchison Falls National Park, marking the beginning of a nationwide initiative that will showcase Uganda’s rich wildlife, breathtaking landscapes and diverse tourism experiences through the voices of influencers.
The Open Park Days, scheduled for September 25–27, will provide Ugandans with an opportunity to visit some of the country’s most iconic protected areas while promoting wildlife conservation and domestic tourism.
Flagging off the campaign, UWA Acting Executive Director Afande Charles Tumwesigye urged participating influencers to tell Uganda’s conservation story accurately by working closely with UWA staff throughout the campaign.
He said the initiative demonstrates UWA’s commitment to making Uganda’s natural heritage more accessible and inspiring more citizens to experience the country’s national parks firsthand.
The parks participating in the campaign include Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Mburo National Park and Kidepo Valley National Park.
The programme will also cover several wildlife reserves, including Ajai Wildlife Reserve, Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve, Katonga Wildlife Reserve and Toro Semuliki Wildlife Reserve.
Speaking at the launch, Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) Chief Executive Officer Juliana Kagwa called on influencers to proudly market Uganda, describing tourism promotion as a shared national responsibility. She also reaffirmed UTB’s support for the campaign by providing vehicles to facilitate activations across the country.
Meanwhile, UWA Acting Commissioner for Tourism and Business Development Dorcus Rukundo encouraged young Ugandans to embrace domestic tourism, connect with nature and inspire others to explore the country’s unique attractions.
The campaign will feature wildlife encounters, conservation education, immersive park experiences and digital content designed to encourage more Ugandans to explore, appreciate and protect the country’s natural heritage.
