President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Moses Kaziibwe Kawumi as the new Deputy Chief Justice in a fresh reshuffle within Uganda’s judiciary.

In the same changes, Agnes Alum was appointed Chief Registrar, one of the key administrative positions within the judicial system.

The appointments signal another significant development in the ongoing restructuring and strengthening of the judiciary, which plays a central role in the administration of justice, constitutional interpretation, and oversight of court operations across the country.

The Deputy Chief Justice is the second-highest judicial officer in Uganda and is responsible for supervising the Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court, while the Chief Registrar oversees the administration and management of courts.

The appointments are expected to take effect following the required approval and formal processes under Uganda’s judicial appointment framework.

The reshuffle comes at a time when the judiciary continues to handle high-profile constitutional, electoral, and governance-related cases following the recently concluded general elections and transition into the 12th Parliament.
