Newly elected Members of Uganda’s 12th Parliament are expected to receive government funding to purchase their official vehicles by July 10, 2026, Finance Minister Henry Musasizi has announced.
Speaking during the induction seminar for Members of Parliament at Speke Resort Munyonyo on July 1, Musasizi said the funds would be released as part of the first-quarter disbursements for the 2026/27 financial year.
The minister said he had already directed officials at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development to prioritize the release of the vehicle funds to enable legislators to effectively carry out their duties.
“The money for the vehicles to facilitate MPs to move back to their constituencies will be released in the first batch of this quarter, which is in July. I have already instructed my team to ensure that this is provided for. By the end of July, we shall all be happy because I am also one of you,” Musasizi said.
He noted that timely disbursement of the funds will enable Members of Parliament to acquire official vehicles and strengthen their engagement with constituents across the country.
The announcement was welcomed by legislators attending the four-day induction programme, which is intended to prepare Members of the 12th Parliament for their legislative, oversight, and representative responsibilities during the 2026–2031 term.
Government provides vehicle facilitation to Members of Parliament to support constituency outreach, monitoring of government programmes, and the execution of parliamentary duties.
