The Minister for the Presidency, Hon. Milly Babalanda, has called on residents of Busoga to vote for National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidates in the upcoming Local Council I (LC I) elections, saying the move will strengthen the implementation and monitoring of key government programmes at the grassroots.

Addressing a campaign rally on Monday, Babalanda said electing NRM leaders at the village level would improve service delivery and ensure that government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga effectively benefit the intended communities.

She noted that strong grassroots leadership is essential for monitoring government programmes and promoting community development.

The minister also revealed that the government is considering improving the welfare of LC I chairpersons by increasing their monthly facilitation from the current UGX 10,000 to better remuneration in recognition of the vital role they play in local administration.

Babalanda further cautioned NRM members against campaigning for opposition candidates, warning that such actions undermine party unity and discipline.

She urged residents to report any NRM leaders found mobilising support for opposition candidates so that appropriate disciplinary action can be taken by the party.

The minister reaffirmed the NRM government’s commitment to improving household livelihoods through its development programmes and appealed to voters to support the ruling party’s candidates in the forthcoming LC I elections.
