The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has confirmed that the party will today, Friday, July 31, 2026, conduct primary elections for LCII Chairpersons and Parish Women Council Committees across the country.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, during a press briefing at the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala. He was accompanied by the Commission’s Deputy Chairperson, Hon. Fred Jacan Omach, and Commissioner Amb. James Williams Kinobe.

Dr. Odoi said the party is advancing to the next phase of its Local Council electoral roadmap following what he described as a strong performance in the recently concluded LCI Chairperson elections held on July 28.

He urged party members, candidates and election officials to ensure that the primaries are conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner, in line with the party’s electoral guidelines.

The NRM Electoral Commission also called on all participants to respect the outcome of the primaries and avoid acts of violence, intimidation or electoral malpractice.

The LCII Chairperson and Parish Women Council Committee primaries form part of the ruling party’s preparations for the forthcoming Local Council elections under the Electoral Commission’s national electoral roadmap.
