Prime Minister Nabbanja underscored the shared interests and commonalities between Uganda and Lesotho, noting the importance of fostering collaboration to unlock new opportunities. “Uganda and Lesotho have much to offer each other, and by working together, we can develop strategies that will not only boost our economies but also improve the lives of our people,” she said.

The talks also touched on the upcoming selection for the Commonwealth Secretary General, with Nabbanja reaffirming Uganda’s support for Lesotho’s candidature, emphasizing the principle of rotational leadership within the African Union.

In addition to political support, the two leaders explored opportunities in the agricultural sector, where Uganda has established itself as a regional leader. Nabbanja highlighted Uganda’s capacity to produce surplus agricultural products, such as milk, and expressed interest in sharing Uganda’s agricultural expertise with Lesotho.

“Uganda has the capacity to not only meet our domestic needs but also to supply other African markets. We are ready to support Lesotho in enhancing its agricultural sector, especially in training and capacity building,” Nabbanja added.

On his part, Prime Minister Matekane expressed a keen interest in deepening economic ties and invited Ugandan businesses to explore opportunities in Lesotho. He acknowledged the strong interest from Uganda’s business community in engaging with Lesotho and pledged his government’s support for such initiatives.

“We have had fruitful discussions with Uganda’s business community, and we are eager to welcome their investments in Lesotho. Our doors are open, and we will provide all the necessary support to ensure successful partnerships,” Matekane said.

The meeting, attended by key ministers and technical staff from both countries, marked a significant step in strengthening the relationship between Uganda and Lesotho. Both leaders expressed optimism that the collaboration will lead to increased trade and development, benefiting the people of both nations.
