Uganda Police Mourn the Passing of Former IGP Okoth Ogola

The Uganda Police Force is mourning the death of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Okoth Ogola, who passed away on February 14, 2025, at Nakasero Hospital. Ogola, who served as IGP from 1981 to 1985, played a pivotal role during a critical period in the force’s history.

The Uganda Police Force has confirmed the passing of former Inspector General of Police, Okoth Ogola, who died on February 14, 2025, at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala. Ogola served as IGP during a turbulent era, overseeing significant developments in the force’s operations from 1981 to 1985.

In an official statement released on X (formerly Twitter), the police extended heartfelt condolences to his family and assured the public that Ogola would be honored for his contributions to the force.

Abas Byakagaba, the spokesperson of the Uganda Police Force ,“The Uganda Police Force is mourning the death of former Inspector General of Police Okoth Ogola. On behalf of the entire force, I extend our deepest condolences to his family. We are committed to honoring him in a manner fitting his legacy.”

Ogola’s tenure as IGP was marked by challenges, but his leadership left an indelible mark on the force, especially during a crucial period in Uganda’s post-independence history.

The statement concluded with a tribute to his lasting influence on the Uganda Police Force,
“Okoth Ogola’s leadership and contributions to the Uganda Police Force will be remembered and cherished. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Police officials have pledged to provide further updates on funeral arrangements in due course as the force continues to honor the legacy of one of its most influential leaders.
