UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said denying the right to a Palestinian state is unacceptable. The establishment of their own state by the Palestinian people must be recognized by all.

In this statement, Guterres said, the refusal to accept a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinian state and the denial of the Palestinian people’s right to an independent state cannot be accepted.

Guterres also said that not recognizing these demands would prolong the war indefinitely. It will be a big threat to world peace and security. Polarization will increase. Extremists everywhere will be emboldened.

Note that the United States is Israel’s main ally and important supporter in the war against the militant group Hamas in Gaza. They have also recently reiterated their support for the establishment of a Palestinian state.

But recently Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirmed his opposition to the legitimacy of a Palestinian state. This has also drawn criticism from its ally the United States.
