Victoria University marked its 8th graduation ceremony at the Speke Resort Convention Centre, with 2,500 graduates receiving degrees across various disciplines.

The ceremony was highlighted by calls for deeper investment in research and innovation to address local and continental challenges.

In a momentous event held at the Speke Resort Convention Centre, Victoria University celebrated the hard work and dedication of approximately 2,500 graduates during its 8th graduation ceremony.

The graduates, who had completed courses across various fields, were encouraged to continue their educational journey with a focus on innovation and practical solutions for Uganda and Africa.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Lawrence Muganga congratulated the graduates, acknowledging their perseverance.

“We are proud of each of our graduates and look forward to celebrating together,” he said, underscoring the pride the university feels in its academic achievements.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, who was the guest of honor, commended the university’s efforts in maintaining quality education with a focus on technology and innovation. “Thank you, Mr. Sudhir Ruparelia, for investing in a sector where you don’t expect profits but only to offer service to humanity,” Tayebwa said, referring to the significant role the university’s chairman has played in shaping the institution.

Tayebwa further acknowledged the relevance of the university’s curriculum, tailored to meet Uganda’s pressing needs.

He stressed that the education system should evolve to empower graduates to thrive in the global community, particularly through initiatives such as the Africa Free Trade Area. “It is cheaper to travel to Dubai than Mombasa. Better prepare to go beyond your villages and learn languages such as Kiswahili and French to be global citizens and survive in this competitive world,” he advised.

As Victoria University continues to establish itself as a premier institution, the event underscored its commitment to fostering innovation, research, and solutions that will contribute not only to Uganda’s development but also to Africa’s future.
