On the 9th of August 2022, the people of Kenya voted for the Presidential candidates, MPs , Senators, Ward administrators and Governors.
The Presidential race had four candidates; William Ruto, Raila Odinga, Wajackoyah George and David Mwaure. However, the contention was between UDA’s Ruto and ODM’s Odinga of the Kenya Kwanza Coalition and the Azimio La Umoja Coalition respectively .
Mr. Ruto, 55, the Country’s Vice President and a wealthy businessman, labelling himself as the custodian of “Hustler Nation” — the hopeless, mostly young people struggling to gain a foothold. He frequently told voters about his humble beginnings, including a poor stricken childhood and an early career selling chickens on the side of a busy road. This narrative earned him popularity in the race over his competitor.
Ruto won with 7,176,141 votes a 50.49% beating his main rival Odinga who gathered 6,942,930 votes a 48.85% out of the 12 Million people who voted, The Chairman of the IEBC Mr. Wafula Chebukati thus announced Mr.Ruto as the winner of the Kenya Presidential election 2022 making him Kenya’s 5th President-elect .

However, Ruto’s victory was overshadowed by a major development where Four of the electoral commissioners who rejected Mr. Chebukati’s election outcome and denounced “the opaque nature” of the final phase of the count.
In conclusion, Mr. Ruto, in his victory remarks thanked the IEBC Chairman Chebukati for standing firm against intimidation and announce him the winner and also opening up the online portal to the public which he termed as the game changer, Mr. Ruto also thanked the almighty God for enabling him win the Presidential election after walking a long political journey of many hardships, He further emphasized that for the good of Kenya he was going to work with all people.
