President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged residents to embrace commercial agriculture, industrialization, and other wealth-generating sectors. The call came during the commissioning of the Karamoja Presidential Industrial Hub in Lokitidede Town Council, Napak District, yesterday.

Addressing the gathering, President Museveni emphasized the importance of diversifying economic activities to foster sustainable development and wealth creation. “We must focus on four critical sectors: commercial agriculture for food security and income, manufacturing industries, service provision such as education and healthcare, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT),” he said.

The newly commissioned industrial hub is designed to support small- and medium-scale enterprises, providing training and resources to empower the local population with skills in agriculture, carpentry, tailoring, and ICT. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy of decentralizing development and addressing regional disparities.

The President noted that commercial agriculture holds immense potential for transforming rural livelihoods by ensuring food security and creating surplus for trade. He urged residents to utilize modern farming techniques and link up with markets for their produce.

Leaders and local officials hailed the establishment of the hub, noting that it is a game-changer for the subregion’s economic prospects. Napak District Chairperson lauded the government’s commitment to addressing the unique challenges of Karamoja, a region historically marginalized but rich in untapped potential.

As Uganda continues its push for Vision 2040, projects like the Karamoja Industrial Hub signal a renewed focus on grassroots empowerment and regional integration into the national economy.
