One person was killed, and seven others critically injured in a shooting in Nyanga, Cape Town, early Tuesday morning. Authorities suspect the incident is linked to ongoing taxi violence in the area, which has been a source of deadly conflict in recent years.

Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile confirmed that officers confiscated 20 firearms during their operations in the vicinity. “Our team was on the ground and managed to prevent what could have been an even worse tragedy,” Patekile said, emphasizing the importance of their continued presence in high-risk areas.

Police have launched an investigation into the shooting, but no arrests have been made so far. Authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and whether it is part of a broader escalation in taxi-related violence.

Nyanga has long been a hotspot for violent crime, with taxi disputes often erupting into deadly altercations. Law enforcement is urging the public to cooperate with investigations as they seek to hold those responsible accountable.
