South African businessman Patrice Motsepe has been re-elected unopposed as the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for a second four-year term, extending his leadership until 2029.

Motsepe’s re-election was confirmed during the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo on Wednesday after no challengers emerged before the nomination deadline in November 2024. His first term has been widely praised for stabilizing CAF’s finances, increasing prize money for major tournaments, and expanding the global reach of African football.

Under his leadership, the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 in Côte d’Ivoire attracted a record 1.4 billion viewers worldwide. Additionally, financial support for Member Associations has improved, and investments in football infrastructure have increased.

Motsepe attributed his decision to seek re-election to calls from Member Association Presidents and key stakeholders. “The goal remains making African football globally competitive, stabilizing finances, and investing in infrastructure,” he stated.

His unchallenged victory reflects the confidence in his leadership and CAF’s collective ambition to elevate African football on the global stage.
