Uganda’s Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja has delivered Africa’s regional perspectives on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) implementation during the ongoing High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

In her address, Nabbanja emphasized the urgent need for leadership and governance reforms, increased financing, and strategic partnerships to accelerate progress toward the 2030 Agenda.

“Africa faces a USD 1.6 trillion financing gap by 2030, and this must be addressed with urgency,” she said, underscoring the importance of investing in youth, women, and digital transformation, alongside prioritizing health and social protection systems.

The Prime Minister called for rapid economic transformation, job creation, and the development of the blue economy, which she described as “essential for long-term sustainability.”

“Together, we can build the Africa—and world—we want: one that is prosperous, peaceful, and sustainable,” Nabbanja added.

On the sidelines of the forum, Prime Minister Nabbanja held a series of productive bilateral meetings. She met with the Prime Minister of Finland, H.E. Petteri Orpo, where they discussed cooperation in digital infrastructure, technology transfer, and benchmarking Finland’s progress in SDG implementation and education reform.

She also held talks with Lord Collins of Highbury, the UK Minister for Africa, the UN, Commonwealth, and Human Rights, to explore areas of mutual interest between Uganda and the United Kingdom.

Additionally, Nabbanja met with Mr. Boris Titov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation, where the two discussed enhancing cooperation between Uganda and Russia.

The Prime Minister’s engagements in New York reflect Uganda’s ongoing commitment to international partnerships in achieving sustainable development and strengthening diplomatic ties.
