President Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni’s landslide victory in Uganda’s recently concluded general elections has been formally confirmed following the gazettement of the final presidential results by the Electoral Commission.

The results were published in the Uganda Gazette Extraordinary dated February 6, 2026, giving the outcome full legal force in accordance with electoral law. The gazettement marks the final statutory step in validating the presidential election results, subject only to any successful challenge through the courts.

According to the Electoral Commission, President Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, won the January 15 presidential poll with 72 per cent of the total vote, securing a fresh five-year term in office. He polled 7,946,772 votes, defeating seven other contenders.

His closest challenger, National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, came second with 2,741,238 votes, representing 25 per cent of the vote. James Nandala Mafabi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) followed with 209,039 votes.

Other candidates included Mugisha Gregory Muntu Oyera of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), who garnered 59,276 votes; Bulira Frank Kabiga of the Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP) with 45,959 votes; Kasibante Robert of the National Peasants’ Party (NPP) with 33,440 votes; Munyagwa Mubarak Sseruga of the Common Man’s Party (CMP) with 31,666 votes; and Joseph Mabirizi of the Conservative Party (CP), who received 23,458 votes.

The results were published under General Notice No. 244 of 2026, pursuant to Section 59(3) of the Presidential Elections Act, Cap. 179, formally recognising Museveni as president-elect and opening the constitutional window for filing presidential election petitions.

Under Ugandan law, publication in the official gazette accords the results full legal standing, clears the way for the swearing-in ceremony, and signals the commencement of the next presidential term.

Meanwhile, Kasibante Robert, who had filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the election outcome, has since applied to withdraw the case, citing prohibitive legal costs and the complexity of pursuing further legal proceedings.

Copies of the gazetted presidential election results are available at all Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) offices across the country and on the UPPC online portal.
