The National Resistance Movement is stepping up efforts to consolidate its influence in Parliament after more than 30 independent Members of Parliament expressed interest in entering a cooperation agreement with the ruling party.

The move, initiated during a meeting at the party headquarters in Kampala, signals a strategic push by the NRM to build a broader legislative alliance beyond its elected party members.

Speaking at the engagement, Speaker of Parliament and NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), Anita Annet Among, welcomed the legislators and reassured them that collaboration would not compromise their independent status.

The arrangement is expected to be formalized through a memorandum of understanding, creating a structured framework for cooperation on key legislative and policy matters.

Political observers say the development could significantly shape the balance of power in Parliament, with independents often holding swing influence in critical votes. By bringing them closer, the NRM could strengthen its ability to pass legislation and maintain cohesion within the House.
