The Parliament of Uganda has scheduled by-elections to fill two vacant seats in the East African Legislative Assembly, following the departure of former representatives who joined the national legislature.
According to the Speaker, the elections will be held on April 12, 2026, to replace James Kakooza and Denis Namara, who recently secured positions as Members of Parliament in Uganda’s 12th Parliament.
The development creates an opportunity for new representatives to take up Uganda’s slots in EALA, the legislative arm of the East African Community, which plays a key role in regional integration, policy-making, and oversight.
The upcoming by-elections are expected to attract interest from political parties and independent candidates seeking to influence regional legislation and represent Uganda’s interests at the East African level.
