NRM Makes Final Push as Kikuube By-Election Campaigns Close

Campaigns for the Kikuube District Chairperson by-election officially closed on Tuesday ahead of polling day scheduled for Thursday, June 18, 2026, with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) making a final appeal to voters to support its candidate, Paddy Kisembo.

The NRM campaign team, led by the party’s Director of Mobilisation, Dr. Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde, was joined by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja during the final day of campaigns.

The team traversed the sub-counties of Kabwoya and Kiziranfumbi, holding a series of stopovers and community engagements aimed at mobilising voters ahead of the crucial vote.

Addressing residents, Nabbanja urged voters to turn up in large numbers and elect Kisembo, arguing that an NRM victory would strengthen coordination between the district leadership and the central government in implementing development programmes.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of district chairperson-elect Peter Banura, who was involved in a fatal road accident in April before he could be sworn into office.

NRM officials expressed confidence that Kisembo would secure victory, citing the party’s grassroots structures and support in the district.

The Electoral Commission is expected to conduct polling on Thursday, with security agencies and election officials assuring voters of a peaceful and transparent electoral process.

The Kikuube by-election is being closely watched as one of the first major electoral contests since the commencement of Uganda’s new political term, with both local leaders and national political actors keenly following the outcome.
