President Yoweri Museveni has arrived at Kibanga Playground in Kalangala Town Council to a jubilant reception from National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders and hundreds of supporters as the ruling party makes its final push ahead of the Kalangala District Woman MP by-election.

The President, who also serves as NRM National Chairman, was welcomed by senior party officials, district leaders, and campaign teams supporting the party’s flag bearer, Idah Nabayiga.

His visit comes at a crucial stage of the campaign, with voters expected to head to the polls on Wednesday to elect their Woman Member of Parliament.

Supporters dressed in NRM colours gathered at the venue hours before the President’s arrival, waving party flags and chanting slogans in support of both Museveni and Nabayiga.

The rally is expected to serve as the climax of the ruling party’s campaign activities in the island district, where NRM leaders have spent weeks traversing communities to mobilise support for their candidate.

During the event, Museveni is expected to address residents on government development programmes, service delivery, and the importance of electing leaders who can work closely with government to advance the district’s development agenda.

The President is also anticipated to rally voters to support Nabayiga, whom party leaders have described as a capable and experienced leader who understands the challenges facing Kalangala’s island communities.

The by-election has attracted significant political attention, with parties intensifying campaigns in the final days before voting. For the NRM, victory would further strengthen the party’s foothold in the strategic Lake Victoria district.

Nabayiga has campaigned on promises of improving household incomes, strengthening implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM), enhancing service delivery, and advocating for the interests of fishing communities and island residents in Parliament.

As excitement builds around the President’s visit, security has been heightened around the rally venue to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.

The outcome of Wednesday’s poll is expected to be closely watched as a test of political support in Kalangala, with both the ruling party and its rivals making a final appeal to voters before campaigning officially concludes.
