National Resistance Movement (NRM) Woman MP candidate Idah Nabayiga has pledged to prioritize improved livelihoods and effective implementation of government wealth-creation programmes if elected as the Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament.
Nabayiga made the commitment as she intensified campaigns across the island district ahead of the June 24 by-election, conducting mobilization meetings in several communities including Kikwayu, Kibaale LC1, Senero, Mugoye, Ddajje, Kaazi Malanga and surrounding areas.
Addressing residents during the campaign trail, Nabayiga said her focus would be on ensuring that government programmes intended to uplift household incomes reach the intended beneficiaries and deliver tangible results.
She particularly highlighted the Parish Development Model (PDM), describing it as a critical intervention for poverty reduction and economic empowerment at the grassroots level.
“If elected, I will work closely with government agencies and local leaders to ensure that programmes such as the Parish Development Model effectively benefit the people of Kalangala and improve household incomes,” she said.
Nabayiga noted that many residents continue to face challenges related to access to services, economic opportunities and development programmes, stressing that strong representation in Parliament is needed to address those concerns.
She also pledged to strengthen monitoring of government initiatives in the district to ensure accountability, transparency and efficient service delivery.
The NRM flag bearer urged residents to support her candidature, arguing that her experience and understanding of the district’s unique challenges position her well to advocate for the interests of island communities.
Throughout her campaign engagements, Nabayiga emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration between local leaders, residents and government institutions in accelerating development across the district.
The Kalangala Woman MP by-election has attracted considerable political attention, with candidates making final appeals to voters as campaigns enter the closing stages.
The winner of the contest will represent the district in the 12th Parliament and will be expected to champion issues affecting the island communities, including fisheries, transport, healthcare, education and economic development.
With polling day drawing closer, political parties have intensified grassroots mobilization efforts in a race expected to test their support in one of Uganda’s most unique island districts.
