Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business Robinah Nabbanja has commended previous Parliaments for their support in implementing National Resistance Movement (NRM) government programmes, saying their contribution has been vital to Uganda’s socioeconomic transformation.

Speaking during the ongoing induction programme for Members of the 12th Parliament, Nabbanja said the long-standing collaboration between the Executive and Parliament has enabled the government to implement policies and programmes that have driven the country’s development.

She urged the newly elected legislators to uphold constructive engagement with the Executive in order to sustain the country’s development agenda.

“The country has made major strides across all sectors of the economy since 1986. For example, Uganda has graduated from the category of the least developed countries to lower middle-income status,” Nabbanja said.

The Prime Minister attributed the country’s progress to consistent legislative support, effective implementation of government programmes, and policies aimed at improving the welfare of Ugandans.

She said Parliament plays a critical role in enacting laws, approving budgets, and providing oversight to ensure government programmes are effectively implemented.

Nabbanja encouraged Members of Parliament to remain committed to serving their constituents while supporting initiatives that promote economic growth, infrastructure development, improved social services, and national prosperity.

The induction programme for the 12th Parliament is intended to equip newly elected legislators with knowledge of parliamentary procedures, legislative responsibilities, ethical standards, and their oversight role.

The orientation brings together Members of Parliament, parliamentary officials, and government leaders to prepare legislators for the work ahead during the 2026–2031 parliamentary term.
