The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Disputes Tribunal will begin hearing petitions arising from the recently concluded party parliamentary primaries on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, starting at 9:00 a.m., the Tribunal Chairman, Mr. John Musiime, has announced.
Speaking at a press conference held at Plot 30, Kyadondo Road, Mr. Musiime revealed that the Tribunal has received 380 electoral petitions, which will be handled by a specially constituted legal body comprising eight panels of competent, ethical legal professionals and trusted party cadres.
“We are ready and fully prepared to deliver justice in a fair, timely, and transparent manner,” said Musiime. “We appeal to all candidates and their supporters to exercise restraint, remain respectful of the Tribunal’s processes, and most importantly, uphold the unity and cohesion of our great Party.”
The NRM Director of Legal Counsel, Mr. Enoch Barata, urged all petitioners to ensure they serve a copy of their petition to both the Tribunal and the respondents in a timely manner.
In an effort to conclude the process efficiently, the Tribunal aims to complete all hearings and deliver rulings by September 1, 2025.
Musiime also lauded the professionalism of the Tribunal staff and support teams, noting that the strength of the NRM lies in its ability to resolve internal disputes through structured, principled, and evidence-based mechanisms.
The Tribunal’s work is seen as a critical step in restoring trust in the party’s electoral processes following widespread complaints during the primary polls.
The hearings will commence amid heightened interest across various constituencies, with several high-profile candidates and incumbents having filed petitions challenging the outcomes of the internal elections.
