The Busiro East parliamentary race has taken a new turn after rejected National Resistance Movement aspirant Abdul Kiyimba petitioned court, escalating tensions over the contested election outcome.

Kiyimba is challenging the victory of Emmanuel Magoola, who was declared winner by the Electoral Commission of Uganda on the National Unity Platform ticket.

In his petition, Kiyimba claims the election was marred by irregularities and insists the declared results do not reflect the will of the voters. He is asking the court to overturn the outcome, a move that could potentially lead to a fresh vote if upheld.

The case underscores rising post-election disputes, particularly in closely contested constituencies, where both ruling party and opposition candidates are increasingly turning to the courts to settle electoral grievances.

Political observers say the outcome of the petition could have wider implications for electoral accountability and confidence in the electoral process.
