Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has announced that all his salaries since taking office will be paid into a newly established fund to support the country’s military.

The gesture, made as he marked his 74th birthday, is aimed at addressing the human cost of Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges by providing direct assistance to wounded soldiers and the families of those killed in action.

The special fund will complement existing welfare and insurance schemes for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, with a focus on improving support systems for personnel affected by conflict.

The move has been described as a personal initiative by the president to show solidarity with troops and acknowledge their sacrifices in safeguarding the nation.
