Pope Leo XIV has arrived in Equatorial Guinea for the final leg of his 11-day Africa tour, drawing attention as his message on governance and justice continues to resonate across the continent.

The pontiff landed in the capital, Malabo, on April 21, 2026, where he was received by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

His visit follows a three-day stay in Angola and comes at a time when his Africa tour has taken a firm stance on issues of corruption, inequality, and leadership accountability.

Observers say the stop in Equatorial Guinea is particularly significant, as the country has often faced criticism over authoritarian governance and human rights concerns.

Throughout the tour, Pope Leo XIV has not shied away from addressing sensitive issues, calling for justice, transparency, and responsible leadership, messages expected to feature prominently during his engagements in Malabo.

The visit marks the conclusion of a tour that has blended pastoral outreach with strong calls for social and political reform across Africa.
