The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has expressed confidence that it is on course to reclaim the Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament seat, citing strong grassroots support, improved party cohesion, and government development achievements in the island district.
The optimism was expressed by NRM Electoral Commission Commissioner James William Kinobe during campaign activities held across Kalangala on Saturday.
Speaking as party leaders intensified mobilization through village and parish meetings, Kinobe said the NRM candidate, Idah Nabayiga, is gaining significant support from voters and remains well-positioned to secure victory.
“We are performing exceptionally well because morale is very high and the people are excited. If you were to rate our candidate, we are already polling in the 80 percent range,” Kinobe said.
He attributed the party’s confidence to what he described as renewed unity among NRM supporters and leaders in the district, as well as appreciation for government programmes that have improved livelihoods and infrastructure in the island communities.
According to party officials, ongoing campaigns are focusing on engaging voters at the grassroots level, highlighting government investments in transport, education, health services, fisheries, and rural development.
The NRM believes that these interventions have strengthened its appeal among residents and increased the likelihood of reclaiming the seat.
Kinobe urged party supporters to remain united and continue mobilizing voters ahead of polling day, emphasizing that victory would depend on maintaining momentum throughout the campaign period.
Political observers note that the Kalangala Woman MP race is being closely watched, with parties seeking to consolidate support in one of Uganda’s strategically important island districts.
The NRM leadership maintains that its campaign strategy, combined with what it calls a strong development record, places the party in a favorable position as the contest enters its final stages.
The outcome of the election will be viewed as an important test of the ruling party’s grassroots strength and organizational capacity in Kalangala District.
