The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for the Buganda region, Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, has pledged to deliver a decisive victory for the ruling party in the forthcoming Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament by-election.

Kasolo, who also serves as State Minister for Regional Cooperation, joined a team from the NRM Secretariat in Kalangala on Sunday to intensify campaign efforts for the party’s candidate, Idah Nabayiga.

Upon arrival, Kasolo was received by NRM Electoral Commission Commissioner James William Kinobe and district party officials before participating in a strategic mobilization meeting aimed at strengthening support for the party candidate.

Addressing party supporters and local leaders, Kasolo expressed confidence that the NRM remains firmly rooted in Kalangala and is well-positioned to win the by-election.

He attributed the party’s optimism to its development record in the district, ongoing government programmes, and what he described as growing unity among party structures at the grassroots level.

The NRM campaign team is conducting a series of engagements across the district, including village and parish meetings, as part of efforts to consolidate support ahead of the vote.

Nabayiga is facing competition from four other candidates in a race that has attracted considerable political attention within the island district.

Party officials say the campaign will focus on highlighting government investments in infrastructure, education, health services, fisheries, and economic empowerment programmes that have benefited residents of Kalangala.

Speaking during the meeting, NRM leaders urged supporters to remain united and actively participate in mobilization activities to ensure a strong voter turnout on polling day.

The Kalangala Woman MP by-election is expected to serve as an important political test for both the ruling party and its opponents, with candidates seeking to win over voters in one of Uganda’s strategically important island districts.

As campaigns gather momentum, both the NRM and its rivals are expected to intensify their outreach efforts, with local development, service delivery, and representation likely to dominate the campaign agenda.

The outcome of the by-election will be closely watched as an indicator of political support and party organization in the district ahead of future electoral contests.
