National Resistance Movement (NRM) Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja Nsereko has intensified grassroots mobilization efforts in Kalangala District, rallying support for the party’s Woman MP candidate Idah Nabayiga ahead of the forthcoming by-election.

Namayanja on Friday addressed a series of village meetings in Bumangi and Bugoma villages in Mugoye Sub-county as part of the ruling party’s village-to-village campaign strategy aimed at consolidating support for the NRM flag bearer.
She was accompanied by William Lugoloobi and other party leaders who urged residents to elect leaders capable of working closely with government to accelerate development and improve service delivery in the island district.
Addressing residents in Bumangi Village, Namayanja thanked the people of Kalangala for their continued support for President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM, noting that despite growing political competition in the Buganda region, the ruling party remains a significant political force.
She emphasized that the NRM government has continued to implement programs aimed at improving livelihoods, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities across the country, including in island communities.
Namayanja urged voters to support Nabayiga, arguing that her experience and understanding of local challenges make her well-positioned to effectively represent Kalangala in Parliament and lobby for additional government interventions.
“The district needs a representative who understands the needs of the people and can work with government institutions to ensure development reaches every community,” she said.
The NRM Deputy Secretary General also called on party supporters to remain united and actively participate in mobilization efforts ahead of polling day, stressing the importance of maintaining the party’s influence in the district.
Meanwhile, local leaders attending the meetings pledged continued support for the ruling party candidate, expressing confidence that Nabayiga would effectively champion issues affecting island residents, particularly in sectors such as fisheries, transport, health, and education.
The Kalangala Woman MP by-election has attracted significant political attention, with parties intensifying campaigns across the district’s islands in a bid to secure victory. The NRM views the contest as crucial to strengthening its political foothold in the strategic Lake Victoria district.
Campaign activities are expected to continue across various communities as candidates make their final push to win over voters before polling day.
