Students from Kampala International University (KIU) pursuing Journalism and Mass Communication are gaining valuable hands-on experience through their 2026 internship program at MGD Media Ltd, located at Kabalagala Junction on Ssenyonga Road in Charles Mbaziira Plaza.

The internship forms a key component of the university’s academic curriculum, providing students with an opportunity to bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional media practice.

At MGD Media Ltd, the interns are actively participating in various newsroom operations, including news writing, reporting, editing, photography, audio production, and content development. The practical training is designed to equip them with industry-relevant skills while exposing them to the realities of a fast-paced media environment.

Speaking about the experience, Mutuwa Betty, one of the interns described the training as both challenging and rewarding.

“This internship gives us a real experience of how the newsroom operates. It is both challenging and exciting. Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new,” the student said.

Mwanje Hubaidi says, the program has helped build confidence and professionalism.

“We are learning how to meet deadlines, verify information, and ensure accuracy in every story we produce. The experience is preparing us for future careers in the media industry,” the student added.

Asimwe Martin one of the trainees at MGD Media say the internship is aimed at nurturing the next generation of journalists by instilling professional values and practical skills required in modern media practice.

“We expect students to uphold professional standards and deliver balanced, factual, and accurate stories. Journalism carries a responsibility to inform the public truthfully and fairly,” a media supervisor explained.

The internship program continues to offer students a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced media professionals, helping them develop competencies that will enhance their employability and effectiveness in the communication sector.

As Uganda’s media industry continues to evolve, initiatives such as internship placements remain essential in preparing aspiring journalists to meet the demands of the profession while contributing positively to the country’s information landscape.
