The Uganda Police Force has reminded the public that the country’s first National Cleaning Day will be observed on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., with citizens expected to participate in a nationwide sanitation exercise aimed at improving public health and environmental cleanliness.
According to the Police, the exercise is part of the Government of Uganda’s efforts to promote a cleaner environment, prevent sanitation-related diseases, and encourage communities to maintain healthy surroundings.
The Police have urged residents, motorists, traders, institutions and local leaders to comply with the directive by actively taking part in organised cleaning activities within their communities.
To facilitate the exercise, movement restrictions will be enforced nationwide during the three-hour period. All vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles and vessels will be prohibited from using roads and water bodies, except in emergency situations. Traffic movement will resume after 10:00 a.m.
Residents have been advised to remain within their localities, participate in community cleaning activities, and resume their normal routines once the restrictions are lifted.
However, the Police said several categories will be exempt from the movement ban, including ambulances and other emergency service vehicles, medical personnel, patients travelling for scheduled treatment with supporting documentation, security vehicles on official duty, and cross-border traffic using designated transport corridors.
The Uganda Police Force has appealed to the public to cooperate with security personnel deployed across the country to enforce the directive and maintain order during the exercise.
Members of the public requiring assistance or clarification have been advised to seek guidance from the nearest police officer or supervisor on duty.
