Uganda has officially begun its campaign at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games with a record contingent of 55 athletes, comprising 21 men and 34 women, marking the country’s largest team ever at the Games.
The Ugandan delegation joined athletes from across the Commonwealth during the colourful opening ceremony, where they proudly participated in the traditional Parade of Nations.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, Dr. Donald Rukare, President of Commonwealth Sport and the Uganda Olympic Committee, met King Charles III and Queen Camilla, highlighting Uganda’s presence at the global sporting event.
The record-sized contingent reflects Uganda’s growing investment in sports development and is expected to compete across several disciplines as the country seeks to improve on its previous Commonwealth Games performances.
Team Uganda will now turn its focus to competition as athletes aim to win medals and raise the country’s flag high on the international stage.
