The Government has pledged continued support for the Uganda Hotel Owners Association (UHOA) apprenticeship programme as part of efforts to equip young people with practical skills and strengthen the country’s hospitality industry ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking at the programme’s graduation ceremony, the Minister of State for Gender and Cultural Affairs, Hon. Mary Grace Kuteesa, representing Hon. Henry Tumukunde, said the achievements of graduates demonstrate the vital role of vocational and practical skills in improving livelihoods and creating employment opportunities for young people.

She commended the Uganda Hotel Owners Association for investing in skills development and empowering youth to pursue careers in the hospitality sector.

Kuteesa also called on hotel owners to promote Uganda’s rich cultural heritage by incorporating traditional cuisine, music, art and other cultural experiences into their services to give visitors an authentic Ugandan experience.

She noted that showcasing the country’s cultural diversity would enhance Uganda’s tourism appeal, particularly as preparations continue for the 2027 AFCON tournament, which Uganda will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to working with the private sector to strengthen hospitality training and ensure the country is well prepared to welcome thousands of visitors expected during the continental football championship.
