The Uganda government has approved approximately $113 million to support the expansion of the Uganda Airlines fleet, in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s aviation sector.

The funding will enable the airline to acquire up to 10 new aircraft, including models from Boeing and Airbus, catering to both passenger and cargo services.

Officials say the expansion is expected to address ongoing aircraft shortages that have contributed to flight delays and limited route coverage. By increasing capacity, Uganda Airlines is set to improve reliability and expand its network to new regional and international destinations.

The move is also seen as a strategic investment to boost trade and tourism, positioning Uganda as a more competitive hub within Africa and and the world at large

Strengthening the national carrier could enhance cargo transport efficiency, facilitate exports, and support the country’s broader economic growth agenda.
