The Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission, Nnyombi Thembo, has cautioned Ugandans against misusing social media despite recent court rulings affecting parts of the Computer Misuse Act.

Thembo clarified that while the Constitutional Court of Uganda nullified certain provisions of the law, this does not grant freedom to engage in harmful online behavior.

He emphasized that actions such as online abuse, spreading harmful or misleading content, and other forms of digital misconduct remain punishable under existing laws.

The Commission is urging the public to use social media responsibly, highlighting its value in areas such as business, education, and communication, rather than as a platform for harm.

The warning comes amid ongoing public debate about digital rights, freedom of expression, and responsible online conduct in Uganda.
